O intestino humano tem inúmeras bactérias - e tudo bem! Elas estão ali desde o nosso nascimento e podem influenciar o sistema imunológico, regular o humor, alterar o metabolismo e participar do surgimento de diversas doenças, inclusive a obesidade. Mas como?

Pesquisadores descobriram esta influência ao perceber que pessoas obesas apresentavam menor diversidade de bactérias e, também, bactérias diferentes daquelas observadas no intestino de pessoas magras. Após o levantamento da hipótese, foram feitos testes com ratos de laboratório. Os resultados comprovaram a existência de “magros de ruim”, ou seja, animais que não engordavam mesmo com dietas altamente calóricas. Por outro lado, o grupo de ratinhos que recebeu as bactérias presentes no organismo de animais obesos engordou normalmente. Vale ressaltar: ambos os grupos tinham acesso à mesma dieta.

Mas isso não significa que as bactérias sejam as “vilãs”. Na verdade, elas podem ser a solução! É possível criar um ambiente propício para a proliferação de bactérias “boas”, o seja, que liberem substâncias que ajudem a regular o seu metabolismo. Elas precisam de fibras solúveis, oligossacarídeos e polifenóis para se desenvolverem, e não é difícil de encontrar isso na nossa alimentação: os compostos estão em frutas, verduras, grãos, cereais integrais, iogurtes, queijos vivos, chocolate amargo, vinho tinto e... azeite! Parece familiar? É porque estes são os principais alimentos da dieta mediterrânea, que já se comprovou benéfica na prevenção da obesidade.
